Shame and, then, fear
This seems redundant to "Shame" but I'll leave it any ways. I haven't reviewed it umpteen times, either.
It is just such a mixed up reaction, that could only happen to an animal beyond its bounds and, yet, still bereft of its sentience, that it is hard to describe.
I almost wrote the title as "Fear and Shame" but, then, realized, especially in the context of Loving Coitus that the shame is what leads to the fear.
For a male, life goes along just fine (except for the inevitable effect of previous generations of men causing even the youngest male child to question his place in the world) and, then, puberty hits.
Sooner or later, shame begins to creep up on the man. He begins to realize he is deficient in the art of loving. Of course, he doesn't put it in those words, since he has never been introduced to the concept properly. In fact, the male gender's intent has always been to condition the male to avoid this discrepancy in his life at all costs. He just begins to get the creepy feeling that something is wrong. He begins to feel shame. He will spend his lifetime avoiding the notion.
The next step is also inevitable. This is where the fear comes in. He begins to fear exposure of his awful secret.
In context of recent headlines, some men go on to pursue obsessions, like money as the most distracting obsession in these days and times. As he begins to substitute money for his humanity, he is easy prey for those that desire to exploit his fear and shame. The manipulators.
They turn his shame and fear on its head. "You shouldn't be ashamed! You are a master of the universe. Bend everyone to your will." Even if all of the pursuits are drivel. This is how the most horrific misdirection of the ages has come about, lately.
Ply these men with adulation and develop the cruel streak that the absence of their ability to love has encouraged, and you can create true monsters, unless they stand up for humanity and human existence.
Send them to an island to indulge their cruelty and remove any trace of their humanity and you have a tool to turn the whole race on its head and send them back to their animal state.
You also can play on their fear of exposing their shame, as well as the cruel and inhuman acts that were perpetrated and surely documented in detail.
The worst of the worst can be used as a template for other men assaulted by their shame and fear.
That was the whole idea of The Garden Of Eden, after all. The longing to return to the stupour of the animal when no one had a worthy thought in their heads.
There is still the slight chance that they can turn the tide, if they acknowledge their humanity and responsibility to the human race and dispel the mesmerizing influence that was used on them. It will prove whether they are willing to remain cretins or show some semblance of their Humanity.
They will have to face their fear and shame, finally, In order to do so.
